Favourite Tip (and use it on your project)

Welcome to As You Like It Challenge

Our fortnightly challenge is a home for you to create something
which gives you a warm "inner glow" of pride, without lots of entry rules.

Usually we provide a few options for you to choose from.
You just need to select and use your favourite option in order to join in.

For a chance to win our prize or top-3 spot,
you need to tell us why you've made your choice.
That way our team and readers can appreciate why it's your favourite.

eg, if the theme is 'favourite animal' and you decide on 'bunny', tell us why.
eg, you love Thumper, the rabbit from Bambi !

So get crafting and remember to have fun
and enjoy your crafting time.

It's me, Sarah, in the driving seat today, so the honour of choosing who is on the winner's podium is mine. Before that though I have to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU and a fond farewell to our lovely Lorraine. It has been a privilege having you on the team and we look forward to having you pay a visit when you find yourself some crafty time.

This fortnight's challenge theme is to showcase a project using
Your Favourite Tip to demonstrate and share with others (& why).
You MUST explain WHY it is your favourite.

Here are the beautiful creations made by our Design Team to get your mojo flowing:

My tip is that three is a magic number when it comes to composition.  For example, I've only used patterned papers on the top third of my card, there are 3 pearls, 3 layers to my snowflake and 3 loops of button twine behind it.  For some reason (there's probably a scientific reason) trios seem more attractive. For a bonus point, my second top tip is to get a head-start making your Christmas cards to avoid the rush in November!

My favorite ink is VersaFine onyx black.  I love the way it stamps a wonderful solid image.  I also love coloring with alcohol markers, but they don't play well with VersaFine, they tend to smear.  I have a tub of clear embossing powder that I use right after stamping.  It works great, no more smearing and also serves as a bit of a barrier to help keep you coloring in the lines.  It also allows you to stamp on vellum without having it smear.

My tip is to use Liquid Pearls to accent areas on my card. They are not too fussy but give a little interest and texture to a plain area. I also like them for the centre of flowers.

My tip is to get everything you need together before you start your card. Papers, dies, glue etc. It's so frustrating, when you can't find that one die that would be perfect for your card but you can't find it...you know you have it and it's there somewhere......but where?!

My tip is to get as much use out of your dies as you can by extending them, where possible. This background die is a rectangle, but as it's the correct height for a square card, which I prefer to make, I have extended it sideways to fit.

My top tip is to choose your patterned paper before you start to colour, that way you can make sure you get the shades perfect. I always  have my chosen paper next to me at all times together with my colour chart and construct the card once the colouring is complete.

My top tip is to separate your layers!  Just because certain papers come together in one collection, it doesn't mean they should be used together willy-nilly as it can make for a confusing background and, in the worst case, trigger a headache for whoever is looking at it.
Either use a plain neutral layer, here I have used white, or a complementary plain colour.
These two papers are the same colour palette, but would be simply too much when paired without the white.

**coming soon**

So now it's over to you.
We hope you will join in our challenge and show us your style.
Don't forget, you MUST explain WHY it is your favourite to be eligible to win.

Good luck, and happy crafting.

This fortnight's challenge theme is to showcase a project using
Your Favourite Fully Fussy or Clean & Simple (& why).
You MUST explain WHY it is your favourite.

Here are the beautiful creations made by our Design Team to get your mojo flowing:

Whilst I appreciate the simplicity of a CAS card, (especially when I've spent ages colouring an image and don't want it to be overwhelmed by too much faff) I also love adding all the fancy embelishments in my stash. I especially love pearls and flowers, and at the moment I seem to have a bit of a theme going on with fancy folds and pop-up card bases just to add another layer of 'fancy' to it!

I love both types of cards and let the reason for the card and the image dictate the style.  I do feel that CAS is more my style because I really love pulling one of my pre-made background papers adding a sentiment and perhaps a small embellishment and call it finished.  It's also so much easier to put in the post.

I do prefer to make CAS cards. My fussy and fancy cards just don't seem to work too well, they just become cluttered and look over done. I do like to admire those who successfully adorn their cards and still keep them attractive.

I love making cas cards. I am not really good with many layers and embellishments, so the CAS style is perfect for me. I love the challenge of making a card with not so many layers and other stuff.

I do love making cas cards but I also love die cut flowers so many of my cards end up just a little bit on the fussy side...but not too much!

For me it depends on who the card is for and the occasion, but I think overall my style is in between the two.  Just lately I've been trying to make more CAS cards, especially Christmas ones for posting, so I thought I'd have a go at a CAS birthday card.

I am one of those crafters who is neither one thing or the other!! I love patterned paper too much to favour CAS but don't like too many frills or fancies either so for the purpose of this challenge have gone with "a little bit fussy"!!

Sorry, did someone say FAF?  Hahahahahaaaaaaaaa

I love both but CAS cards are by far my most favorite. It's always a challenge for me making them as CAS as possible and sometimes giving me a headache 😉 but I love the challenge.

So now it's over to you.
We hope you will join in our challenge and show us your style.
